Well, hello! If you’re popping over from the Christmas party at my fellow bloggers, I’d like to say a special Hello to you! I hope you enjoy your visit here at Farm Fresh!
Working for yourself has its perks and its disadvantages. Some of the advantages would be getting to set your own work hours, not being ‘told’ what to do or how to do it by your boss or by a nagging co-worker, and having control over your own business. But there are disadvantages, too. It can get pretty lonely slogging away in some dark corner of your basement, you have no one to bounce ideas off of but the big disadvantage is when it comes time to have your work Christmas party. How does one really embrace the true spirit of a work Christmas party when there is only you?
Well, what you do is throw yourself the most awesome Solo Christmas Party! Go all out, you are worth it! There’s no one to tell you the budget limit on the party, what should or should take place, or what party etiquette might require of you. You can go all in!
Here’s the highlights { and low points } of my work party! I’d like to add here, my shop fairies got involved a little, too…they’re pretty good company and a big help, so, yep, they got to party a bit.
On the note of the shop fairies, one of the things ‘normal’ staff do is exchange gifts, so I left a little gift for my shop fairies. It was the nice thing to do, even if they leave the broom in the middle of the floor, their unfinished projects lying around the studio and balls of stuffing from all their ‘pillows’ floating through the air and around the floor. It’s okay, though, they left one for me, too. 🙂 Fair is fair in the office { read: studio } gift exchange… I think I did a pretty good job of selection the ‘right’ gift for them and they did pretty well, too!
And for me – fingerless gloves in my favourite colour combo!!
Some bonding over craft projects { bonding for one…making/creating…sounds a lot like what I do in the studio anyway… } seemed like a good idea until the adhesive that came in the kit didn’t hold and I needed to break out the hot glue gun. Nothing ruins party morale like a burnt finger or two. So, I did what any disgruntled employee would do….I took a coffee break and scrolled through Instagram.
Selfies seem like the fun thing to do with your office employees at the staff Christmas party, but since it was just me, I took a selfie with one of the resident racks….
Don’t I look like I’m enjoying myself?? Hahaha { Only one deer was harmed in the making of the photograph… }
Now, sometimes, at these work parties, it’s a potluck type deal. So, a potluck, you say?? Typically I bring sweets to potlucks, I love me some sweets…a lot. So, I brought Christmas Crack for the potluck…made me the hit of party…everyone loves this tasty Christmas treat!!!
And what’s a Christmas party without Christmas Crackers!?!? I’m loving this birch bark one, I got a box for another function at our local Atlantic Superstore, but saved one lonely one for myself!! They come with the mandatory lame joke { What’s cold & comes in cans? Chili Beans } a tissue paper crown and a sweet little ornament! Everyone loves the Christmas Crackers…..maybe a little hard to pop on my own, but I managed….after a little struggle, but whatever, I finally got that satisfactory ‘Pop’!
I was hoping for Employee of the Year and a sweet Christmas bonus, but alas, this was not my year for either. I’ll pull up my socks and try for next year!!
Well, I think that might be enough foolishness from me for one day! I certainly hope you enjoyed yourself, seeing how some of us do the Solo Christmas Party. Hop on over to see how my friend, Jennifer of Simple Local Life throws a party! Click HERE to go to her blog post.
But before you go, leave a comment on this blog post and you’ll have the chance to win this Warrior Spoon Necklace that I made out in Farm Fresh Studio! The draw date will be December 23rd at 8pm, so be sure to check back to see if you’re the lucky winner!
I’ll wrap up by saying that it is my wish to you that you enjoy the holidays, surrounded by those who mean the world to you! I’ll snuggle those shop fairies and be thankful for what 2016 has brought my way and look forward to what 2017 might bring along, too!
Merry Christmas from my household { and studio and barn } to yours!
To be continued,
Lori
